About Mike

My background is mostly in business development, strategy, and marketing.

At Microsoft, I've spent a lot of time looking at mobile, social computing, collaboration, and business intelligence markets. I understand how enterprise software works, I know the competitors, their business models, and go-to-markets, and I have been directly involved in Microsoft's M&A process.

During my MBA at Dartmouth (Tuck), I spent a lot of time learning about venture capital. I know how VCs evaluate companies, I know how to pitch them, and I have good contacts in that community. (I also sit on the valuation committee of a small New England VC.) I interned at IDEO because I wanted to see how user-driven innovation works. I also learned a lot about cleantech because I care about how technology can be used to help the world.

At McKinsey, I worked on strategy and M&A projects primarily for consumer packaged goods companies. I learned how to manage projects, structure problems, and communicate with senior people (both written and oral).

At the small outdoor gear startup, I managed several e-commerce sites end-to-end and was responsible for the majority of the company's marketing initiatives -- ads, point of sales, catalogs, hangtags, etc. (I wasn't responsible for product planning, ordering, or pricing.)

At Princeton, I got the standard computer science engineering degree. I can code in c/c++, vb, java, etc. I'm familiar with most web technologies. But it feels like a long time since I did this (almost 10 years).
