About Reylon

Our venture, Worldi, is a finalist in the Harvard Deans' Cultural Entrepreneurship Challenge. We hope to create a local discovery interface that helps urbanites explore music and dance from around the world. With newly gained funding and residency at the Harvard innovation lab, we are seeking a technical cofounder (and any other help) to develop and deploy our prototype.

My name is Reylon Yount, and I'm a sophomore at Harvard College from San Francisco. In the last two years, I managed a Harvard-based tutoring company, participated in two environmental science research internships in Australia, and performed professionally on the yangqin (Chinese dulcimer). My experiences performing Chinese music for Western audiences have taught me that these audiences not only are able to connect with art forms from other cultures, but can quickly become passionate about them once made aware. Worldi seeks to foster global awareness by increasing and diversifying performing arts engagement. The product we envision is a discovery interface that introduces audiences to music and dance genres through distilled content and helps them find local performances based on their interests. For artists and arts organizations specializing in non-Western and folk genres, Worldi would serve as a culturally aware marketing platform that targets newly informed, interested locals, thus bringing in audiences more efficiently and effectively. It would look like a ReverbNation for taiko drummers, flamenco groups, gamelan groups, Indian Bharata Natyam studios, and Irish dance troupes.

Our team consists so far of three undergraduates; we are swift learners, we are energetic, and we are hardworking. We seek a web developer who can join us as a cofounder, develop our prototype, and guide future web development. The candidate should be experienced in web development and design, excited about cultural entrepreneurship, and fun to work with. Knowledge of mobile app development and graphic design are also preferable. Please let me know if you are interested!
