About Steve

I'm currently running my sixth start-up, Smaarts, Inc. We're an 18-month-old enterprise security company focused on detecting malware infections and "kill chains" in progress in real time. Unlike other solutions which work with stored log and activity data, we analyze signals at the moment they stream into our system and perform in-memory analytics on-the-fly. This reduces the time to detect valid problems from days to seconds. We are about to start working with our second pilot customer.

I have three exits, totaling almost $900M with an average return on investment of 17.5X. I was also a co-founder of Moxie Software, which is doing about $40M/year today.

I've been an advisor to many companies and enjoy sharing all that I have learned - through mistakes I've made, serendipity and pure sweat - with younger entrepreneurs. These companies have been in the B2C, B2B and B2B2C spaces. My view is that the B2C experience determines the success of a company, and defines the success of B2B relationships that leverage the B2C experience.
