Background

About Steve

Founded Dejanews, the Usenet search engine in 1995. Served as CEO until mid 1997 when I recruited my replacement and became CTO. Raised over 60 million in venture capital over 5 years. Grew the company to 150 employees of which about 80 were in engineering. Sold to Google and eBay in 2000.

I was recruited as CTO of Barfly in 2007. Recruited the engineering team, designed, built and deployed the company's interactive digital signage platform all in 8 months. Initial deployment was to several hundred locations with no major outages. Barfly was sold
to TouchTunes in 2009.

These were both high-availability applications and Dejanews had very high performance and capacity
requirements. I have acquired a tremendous amount of practical knowledge about technical operations and
designing for flexibility and reliability from these
experiences.

I also have significant high-frequency securities trading experience.
