About Steve

Venture Technologist. 30 years in technology & business with first dotcom in 1999. My third digital startup launched September 2018! Very excited. Find out more at www.nearevo.com/cofounderslab/

I am looking to collaborate on Nearevo with digital/marketing agencies, Saas providers, software developers, potential affiliates and all kinds of other partners. Lets talk.

I want to meet great people. I love collaborating, chatting & sharing tech & startup experiences and ideas. Even happier doing it over a coffee in London. I have other ideas of my own I want to bake, and I'm open to helping on other people's projects too. Don't be shy.

More about me...

I am an experienced internet & mobile technology entrepreneur of over 21 years.

Having graduated from UMIST with an honours degree in Computation in 1989, I went on to work in IT for the likes of Logica, Reuters and Deutsche Bank.

I first programmed a computer back in 1982 & published my first website in 1996. Then following a quick detour as a diving instructor & running my own scuba training business, in 1999 I launched my first tech startup from the dining room and grew it in a couple of years into a mult-million pound business with over 30 staff. Easily.co.uk was the world's first affordable domain name company where I pretty much invented the web-based DNS control panel and established one of the internet's first successful affiliate schemes for growing online sales. Easily went on to also be a leading UK web hosting & email service provider before we made a successful exit in 2004; one of the few dot-com era successes.

I setup Lab2.Biz in 2001 as a platform to visualise new tech ideas & grow them from the lab into successful businesses.

The earliest Lab2 idea came in 2001 for a simple self-service platform to help small businesses send bulk SMS. iTagg has since grown to be a successful digital agency helping businesses with consultancy, managed bureau and development services in order to get the best from SMS within their communications & marketing. iTagg are SMS experts and have helped thousands of businesses send over 1 billion SMS since launch in 2001. I am the technical architect behind iTagg's large-scale SMS delivery platform and the business vision that continues to push iTagg forward.

I have also founded Secly, an InfoSec startup to pursue ideas for developing next-gen internet and cyber security solutions for internet businesses and home consumers.

Finally, right back to the top - I have just launched (September 2018) my latest digital startup, Nearevo. "Out of the box proximity marketing & discovery, for business owners and marketers"

Founder and CEO

Easily Ltd

September 1999 - January 2004

Founded my first tech startup Easily.co.uk in 1999 and took it from the dining room table to a mult-million pound internet business with dozens of staff within the first 12 months. In mid-1999, having invested in a few very expensive domain names for myself (anyone want englandvgermany.co.uk!), I had one of those moments of realisation that domain names should be sold for under £10 instead of hundred pounds, which was the going rate at the time. For the next 2 months I built the Easily.co.uk website (originally called Easywebnames) and with a tiny 100 word article in New Media Age in September 1999, my plan of needing to sell 250 domains per month to survive went crazy. Within months I'd taken on 3 other founding members and we were selling 2,000 domain names "per day". We were the first affordable domain name seller in the UK (and possibly the world), pioneering a new way of selling domain names online. All at a time when everybody was going dotcom mad; no matter what your crazy idea was for a web business, you needed a domain name for it! Among a few other firsts, I pretty much invented the web-based DNS control panel and established one of the internet's first successful affiliate schemes for growing online sales. Easily went on to also be one of the first UK web hosting & email service providers, again offering web hosting for under a tenner and email accounts for SME's and consumers many years before Google got in on the act. 30+ staff later, successfully coming through the global bursting of the dotcom bubble and permanent offices in Farringdon - leading the fashion for London being a startup capital of the world. We did it all and became one of the truly successful DotCom era startups, before exiting in 2004 with a sale to Netbenefit so we could realise some of our other tech dreams.
