About Wendy

After 20+ years as a pawn in the nonprofit sector, I'm ready to take all I've learned and try something that I believe can truly make a lasting impact in my community without having to answer to people who don't appreciate my distaste for power structures and insincere intentions. My vision combines workforce development via on the job training for folks returning home from prison/jail and a community gathering space. Counter Culture Cafe will offer locally-sourced snacks, fair trade coffee, a gallery of artwork created by incarcerated artists, a used book nook, and a performance space for readings, concerts, open mics, community dialogues, panel discussions, etc. Community groups will always be welcome to utilize the space for meetings and events, and we'll offer arts & crafts classes, book clubs, music-making sessions, and more. The business will be managed by those coming up through the training program, and we'll offer them linkages to plenty of other forms of support so that they may thrive.

While I'm fairly confident that I have everything it takes to be the visionary behind all this, I lack the business/finance knowledge to tackle some of the nuts and bolts. That's where a partner comes in. I also prefer to work in collaboration with folks who share my values and priorities, rather than as a lone ranger. Let's inspire each other.
