Woody Pastorius has spent over 25 years in the digital media, information technology and content industry, and is a proven builder of multi-million dollar businesses in various stages of growth.
Woody is currently part of the Adviser team at Upstart Advisers, a specialized network of professionals that has worked together in a variety of operational and investing roles, collectively starting, acquiring, managing, selling and investing in dozens of businesses. As both seasoned operators and investors, they have the common vision of sharing their experience, passion and energy to help their portfolio company management teams with strategic planning, business plan execution tactics, mergers and acquisitions, and capital market activities.
When Woody joined www.mywedding.com in 2009 as the President and CEO, he led the company to become a premier bridal destination site and hyper-local marketing vehicle for small businesses, significantly increased sales and traffic, as well as winning numerous awards (including Colorado Companies to Watch 2012 and becoming a 5 time winner of the Inc. 500/5000 fastest-growing private companies in America). During his time at mywedding, the company entered thousands of new local markets across multiple continents, created access to romance destinations in more than 120 countries, and launched a localized wedding print magazine. Woody led and managed mywedding’s sale to the Meredith Corporation in 2014, and continued to lead the company through its transition until June 2016 while expanding localized market and product growth opportunities across various Meredith channels and brands.
Prior to joining mywedding.com, he was an Executive in Residence at the private equity firm Viridian Investment Partners, where he sought investment opportunities in Web 3.0, digital media, software as a service, and ”green” technology. After the acquisition of mywedding.com by Viridian, Woody was placed as it’s CEO and President to supplant the founders and execute the acquisition thesis.
Prior to Viridian, he was the Chief Executive Officer at HEALTHeCAREERS Network, North America’s largest healthcare online job board. Mr. Pastorius grew revenues to $23MM (from $5.4MM), improved EBITDA performance 3.4 times and increased online unique traffic and conversions to 7.1 and 4.2 times respectively. Woody originally also served as the parent company’s CIO, onTargetJobs, where he was responsible for establishing the company's technology department, recruiting both the IT and software development staff, conducting due diligence on various acquisition targets (seven acquisitions made in 13 months), and defining the technology strategic plans for integration, partnerships, and ongoing maintenance. onTargetJobs was acquired by Dice Holdings Inc.
Prior to HEALTHeCAREERS, he was President and Chief Operating Officer at Infotrieve, where he transformed the company from a $19MM document delivery business to a $33MM global provider of content management technology and information services for the life sciences and other R&D-intensive industries.
From 1998 to 2003, Woody held numerous senior roles at Thomson Learning, a Thomson Corporation, including CIO and EVP of Operations for the Gale Group, where he lead the operational, corporate services and technology group, and was responsible for the strategic and tactical management of the company’s electronic and print offerings, and shared services. During his tenure, the company grew from $155MM in sales to over $350MM as a world leader in e-research and educational publishing.
In the early 1990’s, Woody held several senior roles at First Data Corporation, including founding the country’s first online employment application screening business, First Data Screening Services (which was acquired by Dolan Media).
