I had started my professional career as an accountant / finance person working in banking industry. Eventually I embraced my inner techie side and started a career in IT working almost all jobs on the IT side from helpdesk to Solution Architect and to eventually managing multiple teams and setting technology strategy for various large enterprises within North America. My transition was not easy as I did not have an academic background in computer science or IT. My secret was that I read
a lot of books and had a true love of learning. During my IT career, I spent a majority of the 2008 to 2017 working as a business and technology consultant for for Telcos, IT Systems Integrators, OT automation shops, large enterprises in specific sectors like Education, Healthcare, Banking, Oil/Gas, Energy and Utilities advising on all things in technology from infrastructure, hardware, and software.
As I worked in many fields, I always felt I could create something of value that would address a problem in a specific business setting. I decided to take the plunge with my first startup a few years ago. I was focused on solving data silo problem that persists in the islands of automation within the building automation system industry, by developing an API that brought disparate building automation protocols (e.g. BACnet, modbus etc) together to integrate to help visualize the real time operating datasets of a smart building in a unified dashboard. My first real customer deployment was a large Canadian bank which eventually bought my IP and company and integrated it into their own (they did not want me selling my product to their customers)!
What sparked my current initiative is that during the last five years, I had a good fortune to work with leading technology vendors in the Internet of Things, Digital Transformation and AI space often as a guide, technical advisor and chief digital officer-as-a-service to their corporate initiatives. I leveraged domain expertise in the field of Finance, Banking, Insurance, Real Estate, Utilities, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Education and various Public Sectors as a result of 15+ years as a consultant, solution architect and strategy consultant. As a result I uncovered a great opportunity for a startup!
