Hello all!

I am at the tail end of early customer discovery and am looking to build a landing page. However, there are so many options from Landing Page build specific sites (like "leadpages"), quick MVP, or simply building my own through Wordpress or Squarespace.

I would love to hear the thoughts and experience from this community on what the best way to go is.

Hi

In most cases (90%) WordPress is good enough solution to safe money and get flexibility because of plenty of free templates are available in the web. WordPress (or another one CMS) is just a tool. Your site should be good designed in terms of look&feel.

On early stage your just need to deliver your main message to market using your web site. Don't spend too much time trying to "deliver all important things, messages and call to actions". WordPress allows you to add any content in the future in easy way.

So, start with desing and choose appropriate WordPress (or other CMS) template. Usually it takes about 5-7 business day (with design negotiation and development).

Best regards

Dear Jason,

When I hear Landing page, I get few things in mind, Here they are...

1. Clear Content

2. Compelling Images

3. Supportive Content

4. Strong Call to Action

1. With Clear Content, I mean very clear content about why the user landed on your page. If the user gets what he/she is looking in the first look, you'll have user to spend more time on the page instead of bouncing or leaving immediately.

2. As they say... "One picture is worth of thousand words" and yes, The image that you use in the landing page will definitely going to help user understand the message that you wanted to convey.

3. Supportive Content here means the testimonials from your existing customers. The moment your user see somebody else is taking good about your products / services, Their belief in your product / service will be increased.

4. Adding to the above three points, If you can have a simple yet strong Call to action... You get another customer in your database ;)

few more things to add here...

You can do A/B Testing with your landing page

Changing color combinations / Layouts will help if you have a specific targeted audience.

With Wordpress, you'll have some plugins which will help you in other ways too.. (Exit intent plugins, Social media Icons, Live Chat etc)..

All the best,

Kranthi

Thank you all for the amazing feedback. I have already created a basic wordpress site so I will just do the research and learn what is necessary to make it a kickass landing page.

Yuriy and Kranthi, your feedback was especially helpful, so thank you.

If you just want a landing page, go through a 3rd party sites like you mentioned.. (save yourself time and certain costs).. if you are going to be doing more than just landing page and don't mind starting from ground up like setting up hosting, domain, and time it will take to design the site, then go fully solo (I recommend WordPress based on experience).

i personally went fully solo because I have been on it way back before all these 3rd party sites started popping up.

Hi Jason - good tips from Ema and Kranthi.

For landing pages I've used Instapage, really easy drag drop mobile ready and built in A/B testing. There are other similar services like Unbounce. They integrate with Wordpress too.

I like to have things created on my computer so I can actually do in anywhere even when I'm offline.

I use https://mobirise.com/

BUT you need a webserver to push the page to in the end.

I wouldn't go for wordpress coz even if it's easy you spend too much time looking for the right modules and doing all that stuff.

When doing your landingpage you should spend 99% of your time working on the copy and layout and not waste time with anything technical. IMHO

Easiest way is to register at ClickFunnels (14 days Free Trial), there are quite a few already-done funnels you can refer.

If you have time, you can test it our yourself. If you have paucity of time, then go to fiverr, hire a freelancer and get it done for $30.

I have done it myself and I have outsourced it.. Both model works best for me!

ROI have been amazing with the products I promote and sell.

If you are at the tail end of customer discovery then what is the purpose of the landing page? A landing page is typically used to find customers and channeling them to you.

If you intend to use it to keep your customers aware of your progress, or to attract new customers I’d recommend a wordpress site. Install the yoast Plugin and add all the required metadata to Improve your Seo. I’ve found products like square space offer a skeleton of a website with sparce data for google to crawl (and rank your site) and limited content editing features. A wordpress site on a shared hosting provider like host gator will cost you 3.95/month. Way cheaper than square space typical packages.

If you have a well defined customer base throuch your discovery session then I’d recommend hiring someone to help build your MVP. You’ll get much more value out of that.

Nice recommendation, I would add try "https://www.wix.com/", simple, free and if you don't have content for your site then this will be the best easier one to use.
