Have you had success working with recruiters in India?

Our dev team consists of a small team  of freelance developers (3) based in India.  Yes, we struggle with many of the issues of outsourced development, but this team has a done a decent job thus far.  We had personal referrals/connections to the current individuals, but now we need to expand the dev team.  My preference is to work with 1 or 2 freelance recruiters based in India who can help us build our team.  If you have experience using India-based recruiters i'd love to hear the good and the bad, do's and don'ts.

You have the right idea. There are several freelance networks which let you hire a project manager who's role is to hire and manage your off shore team in their location. I used several proven project managers in India, East Europe and other locations. I hired them based on personal referrals and not through any of the networks. My experience was good. But keep in mind, you definitely want a referral or some sort of a way to vouch for your chosen project manager capabilities and track record. Hiring local project managers is surely best practice in agile development and marketing. Assaf
