Healthcare Entrepreneur on Social Media?

As an entrepreneur in the healthcare industry I have always struggled with whether or not it is acceptable to have a presence on social media and what are the dos & don'ts that are good to abide by? From others experience what are your thoughts-advice?

Regardless of background the election of a communication medium is an agnostic decision akin to a bias about the selection of a piece of hardware for a handyman. How you wield it however bespeaks your skill.

I have to agree with the above. I am a B to C healthcare company and have a social media presence on multiple channels. I would think it would be less needed for B to B- except maybe Linked In.

What are your general aversions to social media as it relates to healthcare? HIPPA? I agree with Margaret that you need to pick the appropriate channel for your audience. If you can tell me more about your product/service, I can give you more specific feedback.

If the people you most want to talk with are in the Social Media Playground, you really lose opportunity to impact.

Your sensitivity to compliance or not doing anything wrong (per se), is offset by your clarity at describing what you are working to make possible for people in the space you are talking.

Authenticity with good professional savvy should make this effective for you.

Yes, it is important for Healthcare Entrepreneur to be active on social media. The way of reaching out to social networking sites differ from one website to the other. The content you used on Facebook need to be different from the one you used on Twitter. The content on twitter should be different from the content you posted on LinkedIn. I would request you not to follow the other e-commerce branding activities on social media. Study the theory on the combination of colors when you are designing a creative. Your design coveys more message than any other means of communication. Keep on engaging with the user, answer the query and be ready to listen to their problems and do provide them a solution whenever you can. Regards, Dina

Whether a health care practitioner should be on social media or not depends on what they want to share with clients. I feel very comfortable on social media and never post anything that I would not want a client to see.. Because once it is posted it is there on the internet forever. At the same time I am pretty comfortable with who I am in the world.

There are so many aspects that can be promoted on the social media by health care professionals like “Alternative Therapies”, Spiritual practices leading to wellbeing, Vegetarianism and the like.

The answer to that question starts with a big picture.
You have to develop a communication strategy considering your target (and where they hang out and learn/acquire info and are influenced), what they currently think of you (if anything), what you want them to think/do and what message will get them there. You have to overthink that part. If you get that right, your channel choices will immediately become apparent based on the complexity of your message and optimum environment for context.

I see this all the time mostly with "should I have a blog on my site?"
The answer lies in depth of message you need to deliver and overall type and frequency of content that is required.

Net net, start with strategy and then think tactics.
