Highway1 vs. Haxlr8r vs. BOLT - what are the best hardware accelerators?

Porfirio Partida Developer at Nearsoft

We are looking at applying to hardware accelerators and it seems like the top ones are fairly similar. Highway1 seems to spend less time in China but gives you access to PCH. HAXL8R is all china. Now I'm hearing about BOLT that is partnering with YC as well. Any thoughts on any or all of them or the differences between them from those in the know?

YC is partnering with Bolt to help YC hardware startups with advisory support from Bolt partners & engineering staff, and to work with Bolt at Autodesk's Pier 9 prototyping lab -- but the two organizations are otherwise entirely separate.

YC is working with its 60+ active hardware startups -- including such startups as Pebble, Thalmic, SoundFocus, Boosted Boards, Helion, Meta, Estimote, Beep, Upverter and Octopart -- and Bolt is incubating its own batches of hardware startups.

Consider YC for your awesome hardware startup!  Apps for this summer's batch are due by March 27th! : )

Our team advises for HWY1 and has spent time with groups in each of the last three classes. Participants get a good bootcamp introduction to product development as well as access to PCH's infrastructure which includes the awesome folks at Lime Lab. We have heard nice things about the quality of talent at BOLT but have not worked with them.

I've helped advise at Highway1, and know the HAX and Bolt teams well. They are all fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. It really isn't a matter of one being better, just different. What do you need most? Manufacturing help? China sourcing connections? Marketing? A network? Evaluate your priorities and make a choice based on your area of greatest need.

Totally agree with Renee. Don't know much about Hax but Brady and the team at H1 are also awesome. The email (which got removed from above) is kate at bolt dot io.

Don't know about BOLT, but PCH is a full service company and can help get a product from prototype to full manufacture and have engineers to help you all the way. PCH has also bought Fab which gives them a distribution platform for PCH products.

HAXL8R just runs the incubator over in China and has relationships over there.

I'm a Bolt portfolio company and their facility at Pier 9 is amazing. The team is also spot on -- if you're considering applying please do email kate@bolt.io and let her know you're coming from the FD reference.

You can check my company out at mysutro.com. This is not a 'sell', I just truly have enjoyed my experience (and still do enjoy) at Bolt.

I went through PCH. Contact me directly if you'd like to learn more. It's great, but you need to be at the right point in your company to make the best of it.
