Product Demo Video

Anyone worked with a great freelancer to do a 1-2 minute product demo video - preferably in the DC area, but not a requirement at all? Basically, looking to do something that lays out the pain point that we're trying to solve and explains briefly how we do it - maybe with a few screenshots in it.

I'm asking about freelancers b/c we probably don't have the budget for a full production shop.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Cheers,
Mark

I did my own animation (http://servicehalo.ca/) and used a local voice talent (Vancouver).  I was in your boat and most of the companies / good freelancers cost upwards of $1000/minute.  I also figured that its best if you do the important work yourself i.e. writing the script, creating the storyboard because you know your product better than anyone else. After that you either record your own voice or hire a voice talent. Sound is the most important aspect so money spent on voice over / background music is worth its cost.

The way I looked at it: I can spend 2 days trying to find someone, then spend time explaining them, then pay them, or do it myself in 1.5 days :)

For animation, I used http://www.sparkol.com/home.php (not an affiliate), for quick video edit I used free version of VideoPad (http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html)

If you have a specific question, let me know and I can give you specifics.

Hope it helps.

Here's a relevant Quora thread with lots of examples and companies.

Feels like there should be a web-based application to do this, but I can't seem to find it via Google.

I produced our own product intro video with a combination of animation and screen captur. I wrote the script and did the voiceover myself as well. Was extremely well received. You can see it on our homepage > http://birdhousehq.com

I'm happy to either assist you guys in creating the videos yourself, or create them for you at far less than what an agency would charge.

There are a few-- all hands on. PowToon.com is the best, in my opinion. But it takes time and finesse to get it right. In addition to that Quora thread, there's also this blog post I wrote on creating your own video: http://benchutz.com/post/43927439590/7-steps-to-create-an-awesome-free-startup-video

Are you looking for custom animation or just mainly some live motion screen captures with voiceover and overlay graphics? If you happen to find someone (especially offshore) to do a custom animated video, would love to get their names, as I'm in the same boat. We have enough inhouse skills to do video demos, but were looking for something higher concept (on a shoestring budget).

Ideally, more custom animation with 1-2 screen captures to give a more concrete sense of what we do.

Hey Mark,

I didn't use these guys but my friend from RentHackr did. Check Mind Bug Studios:

They are based off New York but work on remote projects as well. I think all their videos are fun and genius!

P.S. Disclosure: I am not affiliated with any of them:)
