SaaS Launch Advice

Looking for someone who has successfully launched a SaaS product to give some advice on launch focus. Not so much the growth part as I have that pretty well defined, but how to best leverage KISSmetrics or MixPanel. What things should be measured? What infrastructure pieces need to be considered to best manage a successful beta? Any specific actionable advice would be appreciated.

I think what you should do is define your funnels and then make sure you measure along each stage. If you have a dashboard or something like that it may also be helpful to measure how many times users interacted with each control. Other than that it's hard to say without knowing more details.

Also, try to estimate how many data points you have. Last time I looked Mixpanel offered a certain number of points for free while Kissmetrics had no free plan.

I might toss woopra in the mix.  It has individual Analytics and funnels...finding it more useful than a number of the "aggregate" type tools to better see which segments are converting hand which are not

I would second woopra.

You want to measure anything that moves people towards users of your software.  Can people not use your software until they integrate with another service, have lots of events around integration?  Does your software need 10 data points before it becomes useful, track these data point?

Metrics just let you know where people loose interest.  If they loose interested before getting to the value that your software is trying to deliver they will not stick.

And if you're not sure which analytics too you really want to use, check out Segment.io (https://segment.io/): one single API gives you access to MixPanel, KISSMetrics, Woopra and many more at once.

Hi Justin -

Best recap on SAAS metrics I have ever seen is at http://www.forentrepreneurs.com/saas-metrics-2/

In terms of A/B etc, we have been using Optimizely. You want to use a framework to make a list of all the potential experiemnt and rank them in terms of risk/reward etc.

I use the Leanstack.com model here.
