What are the best ways to create a viral loop?

One of the cheapest and most used forms of online marketing today are viral loops where you are able to have your own users tapping into their networks in order to bring others that will also join. By giving away a little you often gain a lot. At least it should be like that. Some of the best examples that I have seen include the double viral loop of Linkedin and also the virility of Facebook where they were able to bring 9 users for every user they would register. Do you have any suggestions on how to create an effective viral loop? Obviously the cases mentioned here are outdated as things are moving pretty quickly.

The viral engine turned out to be a very complicated subject (who knew :-)), so I'm still working on it, but my lecture contains at least a partial answer. I hope.

Hi Dimitry, great article. My question is: Since this is "just the first part of the viral engine" where can we find the rest of the parts so that we can build / complete a viral engine? - any tips will be appreciated.

The first and the most important part of building a viral loop are motivators - the reasons why people would want to spread the word about your product in the first place. Here's the list of all the motivators I know (I'm fairly confident this list is at least nearly complete):

Dimitry your explanation of the viral marketing is amazing. I've never seen such scientific approach to  marketing. Thank you for sharing!
