I launched a beta invite site http://slimsurveys.com for a side project I'm working on. What do you think of it compared to using something like LaunchRock?

Sean, The page looks great and you have more flexibility than you would have with Launchrock. Tony

It could use some survey looking art -- why, when I get to this page, do I think you're doing anything better than surveymonkey, or a Google forms driven poll?

Great feedback Louis. Thanks! Connecting with existing services makes most sense. MailChimp, Constant Contact and Exact Target will be up first.

i've not used launchrock - took too much time on their site to even figure out what they do.  i know the founders of Kickofflabs and i've used their service.  quick, functional, good analytics.  http://www.kickofflabs.com/

My two cents (and please take with a grain of salt):

My eyes scanned over the paragraph of text a number of times without reading it. Keep the headlines short and crisp: "Better. Engaging. Surveys." Or something. with a large "Sign up for beta! Only x left" and the leading, center graphic.

Put the text below. and smaller.

If you really want to spiff it up you can add some graphics or emulate a famous homepage like Twitters (very graphic focused, little text).

Again - my two cents, take with a grain of salt. I'm a business guy, not a designer :)

What Craig said. Why would I use this over Survey Monkey? What makes your product easier to use?

When I clicked on "Learn More" I expected to learn about the product, not the founders.
Maybe create a Prezi or a Powtoon to show here?

Just made some tweaks based on your feedback here. Better than LaunchRock or no?

I've used Launchrock and it offers an easy way to post a customized form to collect emails.
But you can create a form using many different tools,

The reason we  collect these emails is for communication, to send messages to people that have opted in and let them know what we're doing.

Make sure you're service allows people to send messages to lists they build. Instead of building your own mailing service I would connect with Mailchimp, Yousendit, Amazon SES and others through their APIs.
