Customer acquisition cost

What is the customer acquisition cost for a University (undergraduates specifically)?

I'm looking to find out how much Universities spend to attract students to their schools.  Any stats would be great. And if you can break it down by undergraduate/graduate that's a plus.  And extra brownie points if you can break it down by major :)

Hi, I also happen to be a co-founder of www.HeyStudents.com, currently in beta.  In my research it was $3,750 per recruited student.

We did some event feedback work with a public university in the Pacific North West of the US and was informally told that cash costs were over $2000 - so maybe with non cash you get to about the same as Arindam. UNfortunately nothing more specific but hope this helps. We did the work to get for them the effectiveness of some of their recruitment activities.

Wow - those are pretty high numbers.  Any idea what it would be like for smaller programs versus larger one?  i.e. a biology major versus a film major vs education?

I ask because my startup has students creating video lessons teaching one another ("peerschooling").  And so we have 'creators' and 'viewers.'  The creators are a specific niche (they like making videos and teaching) while the viewers can be all over the place.  Trying to figure out who would pay the most to be aligned with my audience.

May I ask how you went about doing your research??
