What's the best piece of fatherly advice you've gotten?

Because it's Father's Day, I was thinking about all the great advice my own dad's given me over the years, and how helpful it's been in shaping my life and business. He's taught me how to keep going, even in the toughest of times. And how's there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Curious what others have learned from their dads that has made a large impact on their lives, specifically when it comes to entrepreneurship and work?

You should always owe a lot of people a lot of money.  That way there are more people praying that you live. :):)

As a dad with grown kids, my best advise to them has been "Dont be an asshole". The way I say it comes in all shapes and forms and contexts, like when being a friend, dating, dealing with authority figures, teamwork, honesty, and so on.

"When negotiating, the upper hand tends to go to the side who has time on their side.  Try to have time on your side."

"If you want the ketchup to come out right, shake the bottle vigorously before you open the lid, not after."  That's not a metaphor - just excellent advice on how to pour ketchup.

GREAT topic.  Let's add "What he did for a living" after recounting our Pop's advice.  Here's my contribution:

"Don't talk about it.  DO IT.".

WAYYYY before Nike. Dad was an academic psychologist.  Every time we parted, he'd say "Write often.  Send checks.".

Miss that man.  Happy Father's Day to all.

Best advice from my Dad.
Dont buy anything that you can't pay for twice. It's worked well for me for many years. This way you know you will always have some [money] left over for those "just in case" moments.
