I sort of had a fuzzy idea of what my strengths and weaknesses are as an entrepreneur up until now, but I really found the light yesterday when attending Joe Abraham's presentation (founder of BOSI www.bosidna.com).
One of Joe's key findings is that the combination of a BO (Builder-Opportunist) founder with an SI (Specialist-Innovator) founder is the best possible co-founding team. Consequently, knowing your own entrepreneur DNA is key to finding the right co-founder.
I think it'd be nice if FD's profiles allowed us to mention what our BOSI DNA is in a specific field (available as a filter too) to make FD's matchmaking process more efficient.
What do you guys think?
Great idea. Do you have an analyzer program in mind with a scientific score. Not a personality test, but one that measures true strengths/weaknesses?
Could be a great addtion to profiles to have that "meter" score.
Michael, I can't say that the research into entrepreneurial DNA is at a stage where you can call it a science, so aside from the personality test available at bosidna.com, I don't know of any analyzer program.
But since finding a co-founder is mostly about finding someone who you click with and who can complement you in the most efficient way, I would say that knowing your entrepreneurial personality is usually enough. But if you don't feel comfortable with the BOSI assessment, I'd be happy to know if you find something you deem more valuable.
David, thanks for your very interesting perspective. Joe mentioned his observed repartition of founders in the BOSI quadrant: 45% are S's, 20% are I's, 22% are O's and only 13% are B's. So there's no wonder it's quite hard to find a B/O founder...
I agree with you that a tech founder plays a major role early on with both Tech PR and Sales support, but to actually manage and grow sales, you really need a B/O founder. I personally have an ambivalent reaction to doing sales pitches (I like it when it works, but it's always a burden beforehand), so I know firsthand I need someone who loves marketing and sales. I'm an SI too, so we're definitely not a good match ;-)

Paul, I've been "moderated" too so I understand how you feel (I submitted a post about an event in the SF Bay Area - considered spam because not relevant to FD members not in the Bay Area), but I'm surprised they don't appreciate feedback on forums. The Code Of Conduct explicitly mentions:
Be helpful and constructive - honest feedback is great and people appreciate it, but it should be helpful, constructive criticism.
so unless they don't abide by their own rules, it must surely mean you didn't provide "constructive criticism"... ;-)
