Where do I recruit Alpha Users?

Hi All,

Change develops an Invisible App that links to bank and credit card accounts, analyzes money transactions and discovers bad financial behavior (symptoms). It then matches those symptoms with behavioral treatments that are executed through smart sms messages (nudges).

We are launching our Alpha version now and I listed our product under the usual launch sites (i.e. producthunt, betalist, betabound etc.). We also launched a very limited FB campaign to test our marketing messages and learn more about our target audience.

Can anyone recommend other sources for Alpha Users and Testers? It is kind of tricky because to in order to use our service the tester needs to link his main checking account to our system.

Thanks,

Yaniv
You have an idea. Now it’s time to turn it into a brilliant and beautiful product. In this course, you’ll learn specialized tactics to study your user, create testable wireframes, and transform them into fully functioning features and products.

Friends and friends of friends. Given your app works for pretty much anyone (rather than a very narrow, niche target audience), ask your friends to try it out and if they like it, have them tell their friends to try it. This strategy works well because you're friends will likely be more trusting of you and therefore willing to put their bank info in, and, if you cannot convince your friends to try your app, you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone else.

Yaniv, is there any way to get more direct value from using the app? e.g., recommend a card or account that has better rate or higher cash back depending on usage, etc. Even though that might trivial compared to what you want to do, it provides a more obvious reason for someone to install the app. I know a bunch of sites and apps do this but the vast majority of people don't use them.

At surface, offering to nudge people and tell them they're irresponsible when they know that 90% of what's being suggested is either wrong or obvious (no offense intended; it's just the nature of the beast) isn't a great value proposition. Maybe it provides some value in the long-term but not enough to get me to load another app, connect my personal accounts to some little company. All risk and no return for the prospective alpha user.

Give me the real promise of short-term value and I'll install.

Hey Yaniv. Feel free to add me... always happy to help (michael@cruzu.com).

My comments were simply about vitamins vs. painkillers. The way you briefly described your product came across as the former.

Thank you Kamie, I will. Thing is with friends is that we know each other and it is sometimes improper to see what is going on in your bank account when you actually know the person - it is kind of private. Anyways, I will sure try that one through my linkedin :)

Hi Michael, There sure is a direct value, we recommend practical digital solutions that help you spend less and save in areas like grocery shopping, eating out, utilities and bank fees. We also focus on making our users more mindful and aware by using various insights - all simple and delivered via 160 char SMS messages. Recommending alternative financial solutions will be rolled out further down the road.

As for our nudging system, we are a bunch of behavioral scientists who know that telling people how irresponsible they are does not help to improve financial behavior - we use behavioral economics techniques for that which are proven to work in short/mid/long term.

I will be happy to add you to our Alpha Program if you are still interested.
